We received a call about a cat on the street who was sitting on the side of the road and crying hysterically. One of our volunteers was lucky enough to be close by, and when he saw this cat he knew that something was definitely wrong. When he picked up the cat he immediately saw a gaping wound that was infected so badly that we knew that the cat must be rushed to the emergency hospital. Boy, we were right to hurry- Beric was in such bad shape that the doctors were surprised he was still able to move. Beric was extremely malnourished, dehydrated, anemic with a severe infection in his leg down to the bone. On top of it all, he turned out to be FIV +, and was in kidney failure. Seems like any other cat would already give up, but not Beric. He fought and fought for his life. He spent days at the emergency hospital and for a while there we didn't know if he'd make it. To everyone's surprise - Beric pulled through. Not only that, he was well enough to go to his foster home and now is enjoying his life surrounded by loving foster parents.
