Pending Adoption

We receive many phone calls daily. Some of them urgent, some of them not so much. But once in a while we get a phone call that reminds us why we do what we do. A call about Rain was one of those calls. Someone had found a kitten on the side of the road and was so upset by its condition that all they could say was, “It's shaking, it's shaking. Something's wrong with its mouth.” The video they sent us confirmed the worst—a sweet little kitten laying on its side, paws pressed against its body, shaking as if it was having a seizure, breathing fast and shallow. Worst of all, it’s jaw was hanging open and crooked. We rushed the little kitten to VERG who admitted the kitten right away, and they told us the kitten had only minutes to be stabilized. After a thorough examination, we learned that kitten’s jaw was indeed broken. When doctors looked at it, it would fall open, almost detached. We fear that this specific wound may have been inflicted on purpose. Whoever did this left the kitten to suffer on the side of the road. We were absolutely heartbroken... But within an hour or so doctors were able to stabilize Rain and luckily the prognosis going forward was a positive one. Slowly but surely Rain recovered and after a week on medical boarding, we were able to send this cutie to a foster home.
